Is the BMW i4 a good car?
Yes—and it has the accolades to prove it.
The BMW i4 holds the 2023 Canadian Car of the Year award, plus recognitions from AutoGuide.com, AutoTrader.ca and others. More recently, the model secured another win as the 2025 Canadian Electric Car of the Year, noted by AJAC judges for its smoothness, efficiency and quality. The updated-for-2025 model was also called the Canadian Electric Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) in February, 2025—netting the i4 yet another top award from a panel of Canadian auto experts.
The i4 has also been recognized as the 2022 German Car of the Year, a 2022 Red Dot Design Award winner and a Car and Driver 10 Best. It even earned a place on the Wards 10 Best Interiors and User Experiences in 2022. The i4 is easily a must-drive in the luxury EV segment, and it earns our top praise for being the most compelling blend of tech, features and brand clout for the dollar.
And last but not least, the i4’s fifth-generation Electric Drive System won the 2024 AJAC Best Green Innovation Award, thanks in no small part to a 30% improvement in power-to-weight ratio and significant efforts to make the system lighter and easier to service, with fewer wasted parts. In a nutshell? The i4’s electric drive system is now lighter, more powerful and more sustainable than its predecessor.

What’s new in the BMW i4 for 2025?
The i4’s 2025 model year updates stand to make the package even more compelling. New headlamps and available laser-lit taillamps help the i4 make an even stronger visual impact, working alongside new paint colours and wheel options for added visual firepower. Revised headlights flank a new grille for a fresh but familiar face.
On board, drivers are faced by the BMW Curved Display, running the latest BMW Operating System 8.5 along with a new voice assistant that understands more languages and comes with updated on-screen graphics. What is the BMW i4 price in Canada?
The 2025 BMW i4 is available in four versions in Canada, with prices ranging from $58,247 to $84,007 before options. One of two batteries powers all versions of the i4.
The i4 eDrive35 opens the range with 282 horsepower provided by the smaller battery pack: a 70.3-kWh unit that provides up to 428 kilometres of range, driving a single rear motor for rear-wheel drive.
All further models up the range use the i4’s larger battery pack option, specifically an 84.3-kWh unit. In the $67,247 i4 eDrive40, look for 335 horsepower, a single-motor (rear-drive) configuration, and up to 512 kilometres of range.
Next comes the $73,157 i4 xDrive40. Here, the battery pack has two motors to power, since it’s AWD-equipped. Adding the extra motor drops range to 462km, but bumps horsepower to 396.
With even more power, the 84.3-kWh battery propels the $84,007 i4 M50 with 536 horsepower, AWD, and a 430-kilometre range.
