National weekly diesel average grows, after largest decline of 2024

Coming off of the steepest decline of 2024, the national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline headed back up, according to data issued today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Rising 3.6 cents, the national weekly diesel average came in at $3.494 per gallon, for the week of December 16. This followed an 8.2-cent decline, to $3.458, for the week of December 9, representing the largest decline in 2024, as well as seeing the biggest decrease since December 11, 2023, when it fell 10.5 cents.

That was preceded by a $0.001-cent increase, to $3.540, for the week of December 2, and a 4.8-cent increase, for the week of November 25, to $3.539 per gallon. Which was preceded by a 3.0-cent decline, to $3.491, for the week of November 18, following a 1.5-cent decrease, to $3.521, for the week of November 11 and a 3.7-cent decrease, for the week of November 4, to $3.536. Over that three-week stretch, the national diesel average fell a cumulative 8.2 cents.

On an annual basis, the national average is off 40.2 cents, below the 59.2-cent annual decrease a week ago at this time.

WTI Crude is currently trading at $69.90 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, above the $68.54 reading a week ago at this time.
